EXPLORING TIMELESS QUESTIONS AND PRESSING PROBLEMS

At Porter’s, you’ll engage deeply with the fundamental and complex questions and pressing problems that shape our world.

What does it mean to be human? 

You’ll investigate universal human experiences through classes in science, humanities and the arts. In examining this question, you prepare to address pressing problems like identity-based discrimination, self-doubt and loneliness.

How do we communicate and interpret information, ideas, and stories? 

Explore how to present and share information effectively through foundational courses and express and harness different ideas through unique Advanced Interdisciplinary Seminars. Exploring this question allows you to tackle problems like distrust, disinformation and media literacy.

How can we ensure the well-being of future generations?

Collaborate with peers and faculty to confront today’s greatest challenges and examine how innovation and sustainability can drive solutions. This prepares us to take on pressing challenges like climate change, housing insecurity and economic inequality.

How do systems and institutions guide  and affect our lives? 

Use the tools of the social sciences and humanities to analyze how institutions sustain existing structures—or drive meaningful change. This will prepare you to examine pressing issues like threats to democratic institutions, structural racism and class discrimination.

How do we interact with the world around  us and beyond? 

Engaging with diverse perspectives, ideas and cultures—all while considering your role and impact as a global citizen—will prepare you to address issues like isolationism and partisanship.
