Move with purpose. Build your strength. Express yourself.
Experiment across diverse dance styles and traditions while building technique, discipline and confidence as a performer.
Dance at Miss Porter’s School is grounded in structure, discipline, movement and motivation—but also makes space for imagination and self-expression. Through structured courses, Dance Workshop, Dance Ensemble and master classes, advanced dancers study a wide range of disciplines, like modern, ballet, jazz and more. During workshops, clubs and open dance times at the Gaines Dance Barn, all students can learn about and experiment with different styles. Professional dancers and choreographers also visit campus to introduce global traditions like ballroom, Indian, West African and traditional Chinese dance.
With expert guidance from faculty and visiting artists, you’ll grow as a performer and collaborator. Alongside your peers, you’ll experiment with diverse dance styles and perform in polished, professional-quality productions for the entire Porter’s community.
As your technique strengthens, you’ll be encouraged to bring personality and perspective into your work. Over time, you’ll gain the confidence to take creative risks and define your own style as a dancer.
“We cultivate strong, caring and trusted spaces where the dancers feel free to truly explore their creativity as movers.”
Dance Workshop is an audition-based dance company that trains experienced dancers in technique, creativity and collaboration through choreography and live performances. It’s an incredible opportunity for dedicated dancers to grow their skills across different dance styles and deepen their academic and aesthetic understanding of the art form.
Members meet every weekday during our afternoon program block and host and perform at events and showcases throughout the year. They also learn from guest artists and attend and critique professional dance performances. Together, members form a supportive community that recognizes and celebrates everyone’s accomplishments and growth.
